Flashback ION 2007- USS New Jersey

Aside from this impending little bit of fun, it should also be noted that this was before VHOLDR one-touch hands-free helmet cameras. I had a Viosport helmet camera the size and weight of a roll of quarters, jury rigged on my mask. It was powered by 8 AA batteries with no ON/OFF switch or low battery indicator, and then I had it plugged into an 8mm camcorder as a recording device in a fanny pack. It was a miracle I got anything at all...the slightest bump in the wrong way would dislodge a battery or pop a connection out and I'd be shooting diddly squat and have absolutely no idea.
Fortunately everything worked fine and the result is probably the biggest paintball ass-beating ever caught on film. For those of you just joining us, this was at the invasion of Normandy Scenario at Skirmish USA. A bunch of us got into a bus and decided to "soften up" the German front lines before the ramps went down. I was pleased to see there was room for me in there, fool that I was.

Fear and Loathing in the 518, #5

"It's not that we advocated violence. We weren't (most of us anyway), anti-government bunker-dwelling militia types, deluding ourselves that paintball was some way to train for the inevitable fascist takeover. Off the field you wouldn't know us to look at us, except for the odd bruise now and again behind the ear, or a bloody welt on a forearm... we went about our lives the same as anyone else and if anything, we were calmer and cooler about it, all that aggression burned off in a few epic moments every weekend. Those moments made it. The ones where your brain figured out what was happening in a millisecond. Could see the lanes, the moving parts, and literally feel Time ticking by... so slowly.... and then the body was moving, feinting, racing... and if your body moved well and your gun didn't jam and Lady Luck smiled on you just enough... then you'd have those few seconds for the rest of your life... you'd watch them in slow motion on the back of your eyelids when you fell asleep, or tell them again in grandiose fashion over a campfire and a beer, or hold them quietly to yourself... but you'd always see the pieces... like pawns and bishops... and the paintballs like angry darts, all crawling at a snail's pace through the endless wavering Timescape. No... no paintball was not about violence or pain or fear. It was about moments, hanging perfect and pure like a raindrop on a blade of grass after a storm. And for those who didn't understand... well, they could laugh at us and walk away....
or they could pay the registration... and take the ride." ~Fear & Loathing in the 518.

Black Market War & Bob Gurnsey Interview

Greetings all!

Next weekend, the 27-28th of August, most of the SPbTV crew will be attending Black Market War: The Forgotten War at PSI, NY (check out the website under the 'fields' section somewhere over there on the right >>>>). Even Benny will be there, less than 24 hours after getting off an airplane from Italy. It's gonna be awesome.

Black Market provides a great game atmosphere geared towards people of all levels of play. There are complex missions and tweaks to keep experienced players on their toes, role-playing on and off the field, a seedy Black Market staffed by some of paintball's biggest names, and simple slug-it out battles for new players looking to get into scenario ball. You can come up with your own missions, tag along with others, role-play in the parking lot, or just plain shoot people.

For more information on the game and pre-registration (YOU HAVE UNTIL WEDNESDAY, otherwise you pay walk-on prices) can be found here:  http://www.blackmarketwar.com/index.php

!!!!  |*|  IMPORTANT SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT  |*|  !!!!

However, this BMW will feature a special guest as one of the mercenaries. Bob Gurnsey, the father of all paintball, one of the original men who set out that fateful day in the 80's in New Hampshire and started something that has grown into the world-wide phenomenon known as Paintball.
Lucky for us (and you), SPbTV member Adam Misfit Fowler has arranged an interview with Bob Gurnsey following gameplay on Saturday.  We are going to sit down and pick his brain!

However, we don't want to be the only ones asking the questions!   Since we are by players, for players, we would like to ask our readers/viewers to submit questions for us to ask to Bob.

Please send an email to scenariopaintballtv@gmail.com.
Put "Q for Bob" in the subject line so Benny can find it even if it goes to Spam.

Your email should look something like the following:

To: scenariopaintballtv@gmail.com
From: PBLuver@yahoo.com
Subject: Q for Bob!

Dear Bob,
What is your favorite color or paint? What is the airspeed of an unladen African swallow? Did you ever imagine paintball would ever possibly grow so big? etc etc etc.
Love and adorations,
Tom PBLuver Jones, in Timbuktu, Malaysiabamastanica

That way we can organize the questions and give you a shoutout in the video when we announce your name. So make sure you sign with something cool.
We'll conduct the interview, edit it and post it up!

This is your chance to ask the Daddy-o of paintball whatever you want! So get on it!

See you on the Field,

Benny, Frank and the rest of SPbTV

(Please feel free to repost this blog link and get some exposure, we want Questions for Bob!)

Rest in Peace, Borg.

Danijel Jagodic, more commonly known as Borg, took his life today.

Borg was world famous for his youtube videos, which were often humorous, clever and very affordable homemade modifications to paintball gear. Everything from how to make your own magazine and repair gear to headcam footage of various events. Borg's reputation and quality videos generated worldwide viewership and support. Eventually, these supporters even generated enough funds to fly Borg from his home in Croatia to the Living Legends events at CPX in Chicago, USA (see video here http://www.techpb.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=161444).

He was a dedicated paintball enthusiast, inventor, inspiration and friend to many people, all over the world. It is a tragic loss and he will be missed.

Rest in Peace, Borg.
